Tips on Responding to Development Proposals

1. Contact the City staff assigned to the case. This person is the sender of the notice, and their contact information should be listed at the top of the front page of the notice. Ask if the case raises any red flags. If you want to learn more about the case, you can arrange to view the file.
2. Contact your Neighborhood Association and your Coalition office. Ask your neighbors to support your position on the development. Rely on the Coalition office for strategic or technical assistance, such as code interpretation.
3. Write a solid comment letter. Base your comments strictly on the proposal and the relevant approval criteria. Avoid comments stemming from anger or concern about issues outside the scope of the project. Ask your neighbors to join you by writing their own letters, or by signing on to yours.
